The Catalan NGO “contests the removal of the language requirement” of Valencian for education inspectors

The Language Platform announced that “challenges THE elimination of the linguistic requirement of Valencian” through a “correction of errors in the competition for the transfer of education inspectors”.

However, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment stressed ABC that it is a professional group framed like “the rest of the teaching staff” for which “knowledge of Valencian is not a requirement, only deserved“.

Concretely, this is established in the seventh complementary provision of the LOE (Organic Law of Education), which, in article 17, says: “In general, teachers who teach in early childhood education, primary education, compulsory secondary education, baccalaureate and adult education, must accredit a C1 level of knowledge of Valencian, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, to be able to transmit areas, subjects, areas and non-linguistic modules in this language. In the rest of the courses, for the teaching staff and for the rest of the teaching staff, knowledge of Valencian will not be a requirement and will be taken into account only as merit.

On the other hand, on the part of the self-proclaimed “Catalan NGO”, they consider that there is a change “in relation to political positions” and with the intention of carrying out “a new attack against the own language of the Valencians“.

Furthermore, “they encourage the continuation of the mobilizations promoted by the Campaign “We don’t touch the language” and they demand the resignation of the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, and the Minister of Education, José Antonio Rovira.

This is not the first time that they have claimed it as part of these demonstrations against vote in the schools so that families can choose the basic vehicular language in which their children learn, with the new law on linguistic freedom that repeals the old law on multilingualism of the former regional executive of Ximo Puig, governing in coalition with Compromís and Podem.

This normative change which allows parents to choose is understood by the Language Platform as within a “crusade against Valencian in the educational field” and they criticize the advisor for even pretending “exterminate him“.
