“We strongly condemn the biased and slanderous statement against Azerbaijan made by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly on September 22.”
Oku.Az reports that these words were included in the statement of the West Azerbaijan Community.
The statement says:
“In his statement, the Canadian minister makes a baseless accusation that Armenians allegedly forcibly left the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, thereby demonstrating a position that contradicts the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and serves to create tension in the region.
Canada, which turns a blind eye to the fact that Armenia subjected one million Azerbaijanis to ethnic cleansing, plundered Azerbaijani territories under occupation for thirty years and did not allow the return of hundreds of thousands of Western Azerbaijanis, has no moral right to speak out on humanitarian issues.
All of this shows that Canada is unwilling to accept Azerbaijan fully restoring its sovereignty and territorial integrity and ensuring the supremacy of international law and attempting to create a conflict in the region again.
We would like to draw the attention of the Canadian Minister, who referred to the principle of “self-determination” in resolving a problem that no longer exists, that this principle is relevant not to the issue he claims, but to the issue of the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to their homeland and ensuring their rights there.
As the West Azerbaijani Community, we strongly condemn this infamous statement and demand that the Canadian government withdraw it, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return safely to their homeland.
