Elections will show whether Moldova belongs to foreigners or to the people – EADaily, September 23, 2024 – Politics News, Moldova and Transnistria News

Former Prime Minister Ion Chicu has officially joined the election campaign. He is running for president on behalf of the Party for Development and Unification of Moldova (PROM). Last Sunday, near the building of the Constitutional Court, he presented his election programme.

“These elections will determine who will be the master of the country: its own people or foreigners. The PROM party fully understands the importance of these elections for the country and that is why we decided to participate and win. We are responsible to all citizens of Moldova, regardless of their political preferences, but especially to those who have high hopes that these elections will bring changes and a better life for Moldovans here in their own country.” – Kiku said.

The politician also outlined his main goals: liberating government institutions taken over by the Sandu regime, preventing population outflow and improving demographics, ensuring peace and security, economic development, patriotic education and preserving the traditions of his ancestors.

“We have an ambitious programme, not at all populist, fully consistent with the strengths, capabilities and skills of a responsible and professional president.” – Ion Chicu concluded.

He previously stated that Chisinau should communicate with its foreign partners “and not humbly submit to them.” Chicu also drew attention to the fact that in the conditions of the war in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova is of logistical interest to the West and nothing more. There is no talk of equal integration into the economic and political space of the EU.

It should be recalled that on September 20, the Central Election Commission announced the start of the election campaign for participants in the constitutional referendum on Moldova’s accession to the EU and the presidential elections, which will be held on the same day, October 20. From this day on, political advertising is prohibited in the country. Only candidates and participants in the referendum registered by the commission are allowed to carry out election advertising.
