A man was arrested this weekend in the Navarrese town of Huarte, accused of several sexual assaults on minors during the celebration of the patron saint’s festivities. As reported by the City Council, the detainee is a carnival-goer who touched minors who were in one of the attractions.
The City Hall explained that the arrest by the Municipal Police officers was carried out “thanks to the collaboration of citizens”, who quickly brought the facts to the attention of the officers, who arrested him to bring him to justice.
In a statement, the Haurte City Hall expressed “its total rejection of these events” and stated that it “will not tolerate any type of sexual assault or any other form of violence against women”.
“This City Hall has been promoting awareness campaigns for years to prevent sexist aggression during the holidays, in collaboration with the feminist movement. The rapid response of citizens to report these events demonstrates the importance of continuing to work on raising awareness of violence against women,” he stressed.
Likewise, he expressed his support “for the girls who were attacked and their families” and urged “all people to report this type of situation, recalling that all citizens have the obligation to protect minors.” The Huarte City Council said it would take “appropriate measures in the face of this serious event, establishing the necessary measures so that events as serious as yesterday do not happen again.”
