Hotel overnight stays in the Canary Islands reach 6.9 million, a growth of 5.7% in August

Overnight stays in hotels in the Canary Islands increased by 5.7% in August compared to the same month of the previous year up to a total of 6,903,674 overnight stays and follows 12 months of growth.

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this is the third best data overnight stays in August in the region of the historical series.

A 3.21% more tourists in August than the same month of the previous year, reaching 1,005,065 travelers. By nationality, 30.04% of tourists were Spanish residents, or 301,917, while 703,149 (69.96%) were foreigners. Compared to the previous year, travelers residing in Spain increased by 0.9% and foreigners by 4.2%.

Of the total number of overnight stays in the Canary Islands, 1,376,427 They were made by residents in Spain (19.94%), while 5,527,246 (80.06%) were residents abroad. The average daily rate per room was 139.29 euroswhich represents an increase of 8.2% over one year. In general, prices increased by 5.93% compared to the previous year in the Canary Islands.

In total, in August in the Canary Islands, a 81.19% occupancy and the hotel sector employed 57,818 people (an increase of 7.3% over one year).

By autonomous community, the Balearic Islands were the region with the highest occupancy rate per square, with 89.9%, followed by Canary Islands (81.19%) and Catalonia (80.15%), while on the opposite side were Castilla – La Mancha (38.5%), Extremadura (50.1%) and Madrid (54.3%).
