This afternoon he will undergo surgery and then another medical report will be issued determining the length of his absence, which will be more than seven months.
“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Marc ter Stegen has a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee. This afternoon he will undergo surgical treatment. At the end of the operation, a new medical report will be provided,” the statement begins.
“It is worth remembering that the Barça goalkeeper, who started the match against Villarreal at the Cerámica stadium, had to leave the field just before half-time. The injury occurred during a play in which he tried to catch an aerial ball and made a mistake when falling. He quickly asked for a change and left the match in great pain,” added the Barça club.
“This season, captain Culé had played all the official matches of the season: the six in the League and the Champions League match against Monaco. With his start against Villarreal, Ter Stegen became the third goalkeeper in Barça’s history with the most league games, with a total of 289, surpassing the legend Antoni Ramallets,” he concluded.
