This is Livre, the virtual reality that promotes autonomy in Cordoba

Do you need to prepare to go to pharmacy Are you looking for a medicine? People with intellectual disabilities may need trainingor at least know the keys with which they will have to act. For this or to work in the kitchen, for example, there is the virtual reality tool that was presented this Monday in Cordoba.

The association Singular future developed this initiative, called Freeand which recreates “different scenarios of daily life”, so that the people who use it learn to develop SKILLS and therefore also to gain personal autonomy.

“It has been exciting for those who have tried it to see how the scenarios are recreated and go where they could not before,” as its president explained, Angela AmateUsers put on virtual reality glasses, connected to a computer in which a specific situation is displayed.

The program indicates instructionslike taking the plate and putting it in the dishwasher, or telling him to make the bed. You can show the situation of a single escalation on a bus or go to a pharmacy, according to Angela Amate, who stressed that it is useful “for many people, whether they have a lot or little autonomy.” When they recreate this scenario, in which they even see people serving them, they are willing to do it on the street.

Of course, this is especially useful for people “with high needs“, which helps to enjoy everyday situations that might have been more difficult before.

European funds

The way to access Livre is through the Futuro Singular centers, but in the future it will be able to reach the associations that need it through agreements and that will be able to start using it for the same purposes for which it was created: to enhance the value of the autonomy of people for whom it is not so easy what for others means another stage of daily life.

The development work of the virtual reality tool took a year and its cost of almost 300,000 eurosfinanced in part by the Next Generation funds, thanks to a digitalization project developed by the Futuro Singular association.
