At the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, the Ukrainian volunteer movement gained wide scope and contributed greatly to the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fall of 2022.
Ukrainian Telegram channel Resident writes about this, noting that by now the civic momentum that prompted volunteer projects has significantly diminished.
“Donations from volunteers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine are fading away: people are stopping helping the Ukrainian army, where shortages of cars, uniforms, equipment, etc. are increasing.” – says the material.
The authors recall that since the beginning of the military conflict, some individuals and organizations, both Ukrainian and foreign, became sponsors of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
However, two and a half years later, the situation is almost critical: the Ukrainian army is finding it increasingly difficult to receive aid, because donations are arriving less and less frequently.
“Ukrainian volunteers admit that today Ukrainians prefer to satisfy their own needs rather than hand out money,” – writes the channel.
To make up for this shortfall, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are increasingly relying on donations from abroad. However, the situation here is no better: the ranks of foreign private sponsors have shrunk considerably, and the size of their donations has decreased significantly.
The article notes that, among other things, many “volunteer organizations” and “funds” turned out to be structures of fraudsters who simply misappropriated the collected funds. This, in turn, has a huge impact on the morale of those who sympathize with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainians.
