Martínez said that despite the severity of the material damage, there were no human losses and expressed gratitude for “the rapid response” of the provincial, regional and national administrations.

The delegate of Public Works of the Junta of Almería and the general director of Roads visited the area to assess the damage and coordinate the necessary assistance. Following these visits, “the Administrations committed resources and logistical support, including machines for cleaning rural roads and a possible call for extraordinary assistance.”

Martínez explained that the municipality has started rehabilitation works, prioritizing access to isolated areas and restoring the supply of drinking water, “which has suffered interruptions in several neighborhoods.” In addition, he assured that “water tankers are being used to guarantee water while the main network is restored”, a task he hopes to complete within 24 hours.

“The material damage to public infrastructure has been multiple, with flooded rural roads, fallen walls and problems in the local wastewater treatment plant which could require costly repairs,” said the mayor, who in turn stressed “reports of minor damage in certain cemeteries”. and a flooded house, although the rest of the houses, according to the latest report from municipal technicians, did not suffer major damage.

Regarding the agricultural sector, Martínez highlighted the impact on crops near the Almanzora River, “a completely flooded area that has seriously affected meadows and olive trees.” “We are working to return to normal as quickly as possible,” he declared, estimating that the recovery costs will be “significant” for a municipality which has a “tight budget”.
