The first First Division match played in Valencia was the most emotional moment in Spanish football for many years. Valencia is dedicated to the victims of the terrible DANA tragedy. There were players crying, tears in the eyes of the supporters, songs by Nino Bravo, an audience that formed a spectacular mosaic with the flag of the Valencian Community and the message “Amunt Valencians”, all under the anthem of the Community.
With the great style that Real Madrid showed at the Santiago Bernabéu, loaned for this occasion, Valencia-Betis was marked by a great tribute to the victims of DANA. It’s the first match at Mestalla since the tragedy and the emotion was high. The tribute was impressive and long, so much so that the match ended up starting more than five minutes late.

The Valencia and Betis players placed a large black crepe on the Mestalla turf, listened to the community anthem while a mosaic with the regional flag was made in the stands. There followed a minute of total silence which began with a few shouts from the stands, but which ended up being completely respected.
