To more than a month of Christmas Eve and Christmasalmost thirty days until the sound of the children of San Ildefonso singing the numbers of the National Lottery special draw almost marked this “official” start and even before coinciding with the imported and increasingly successful “Blackfriday”, many cities press the button to turn on your lights, in Segovia, they are already ahead. In fact, not in the whole city, but in the Cathedral, where we did not want to miss the opportunity to celebrate the 5th centenary of the Cathedral as it deserves.

So this Friday, they have already ‘turned on’ their lights – low consumption – on the occasion of this anniversary: ​​a large Christmas tree located on the pavement and a Nativity, the presentation of which many Segovians did not want to miss. The space was filled to see the “light” of the twelve meter high tree.

And there was no shortage of music, because for the special event of the Cathedral Chapter they had the voices of Choir of the Juan de Borbón Foundationwho performed popular Christmas carols, during an event open to the public in what is known as the “Lady of the Cathedrals”.

This “special” Christmas exhibition organized by the Cathedral and commissioned by the Gold, Incense and Myrrh group, can be visited during opening hours, until January 7. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays of Access to entry during the Christmas period is expandedon the sidewalk, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. And in a tourist city and world heritage site like Segovia, coinciding with the bridge of the Constitution and the Immaculate Conception -from December 5 to 8-, the complex and the rooms of the Cathedral will open from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., access to paving will be authorized on the Marqués del Arco street. In addition, on public holidays of December 24, 25, 31, January 1, 5 and 6, access will be limited due to the closure of the cultural visit to the Cathedral.

It’s the lighting of the Christmas tree – which eIt will be illuminated every day of the week– and the Nativity, with great characters, has already marked the symbolic start of the celebration of 500 years since the beginning of the construction of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin and the Holy Fruits, which will continue with multiple organized activities for 2025 This is also the first time that the Chapter, administrator of the temple, promotes this initiative during Advent and Christmas.
