The Ministry of Health and Consumption of the Government of Andalusia, through the General Directorate of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation, reports that last week they confirmed Eight new cases of West Nile virus (VNO). One of them in Fernand Nunezthe second in the province of Cordoba after the one tested in La Rambla a few days ago. According to the first data, it would be a very old person (nonagenarian) who would be hospitalized.
To this new positive are added the Sevillian municipalities of La Campana, Los Palacios and Villafranca, Coria del Río and Mairena del Aljarafe, another person in the Huelva municipality of Rosal de la Frontera, and in the Cádiz municipalities of Medina Sidonia and Vejer de la Frontera. It is also confirmed the death of a person from Seville, with previous pathologies, the number of deaths due to WNV is therefore eight.
On the other hand, it was detected presence of VNO in catches carried out in the municipality of Vejer de la Frontera in Cadiz and the result of the remaining traps of this ministry in the provinces of Seville, Cadiz and Malaga is negative. Results of additional traps not yet available installed last week in Jaén and Cordoba.
The case of Fernán Núñez is the second to occur in the province of Córdoba after the case detected on September 10 of a woman from La Rambla, aged around 64, who remains admitted to the Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba.
The Provincial Council of Córdoba and Public Health will launch at the same time a plan of measures for the province where fumigation has already begun on La Rambla and that will allow, with the data managed by the Andalusian Government, to intervene in the cities with the greatest possible risk or presence and introduce the fight against this mosquito in the pest control strategy of the others. The provincial institution will hire a specialized company for these fumigation tasks.
Fernán Núñez thus adds to points such as: Montalbán, Puente Genil and La Rambla where the presence of these insect vectors of transmission has been detected. There are currently six cases in the province of Cordoba and the surveillance system is expected to be strengthened.
