Luis Mateo Díez invites you to “lose yourself” in the exhibition inspired by his work “Days in the Attic”

the book “Days in the Attic” in which Luis Mateo Díez, winner of the 2023 Cervantes Prize, remembers his childhood in the family home of Villablino (León) is the axis that structures the exhibition of the same name inaugurated today in La Panera of the Leonese monastery of Santa María de Sandoval with the presence of the author, who invites you to “lose yourself” in the content of an exhibition multidisciplinary promoted by theMembers of the Lacianart artist collective.

“It’s a somewhat excessive tribute“, something made with a lot of love, with a lot of affection, with people around this wonderful cultural group that is Lacianart and I feel flattered and shocked, delighted with life”, commented the writer Léonais this Saturday about the content of the exhibition, which sees how “a very beautiful expression, with a very creative touchmany varied things and this idea of the attic which I transformed almost into a symbol of my story, a literary space and imaginary space.

Luis Mateo Díez considers that the relatives of 40 artists who contribute to the works which make up the montage and range from digital portraits to paintings in various techniques, a reconstruction of a filandón, a bust of the writer and objects like a typewriter or furniture like a bed represent “a very personal interpretation” of the authors, reports Ical.

“It’s curious, because the attic is a physical space that was in the house… And it’s still there, just like it was in the Villablino Town Hall. They based themselves more on the book that resulted from it, which is a series of stories, memories of the valley in a post-war child’s childhood“.

“I think there are objects, many things, many suggestions that could give this image that we all have a bit of an attic, but hey, in contrast to a specific attic, of my memory and my memories. It aroused suggestions, particular emotions and it greatly enriches me to see the contrasts,” he commented.

Until the end of February

Díez attended the inauguration accompanied by his brother Antón Díez, director of Art and Exhibitions of the Leonese Institute of Culture from the Provincial Council of León -which promotes the exhibition-, Luis García, the mayor of Mansilla Mayor, José Alberto Martínez, the representative of the Sierra Pambley Foundation in Villablino, Pedro González, and the Lacianart artists María del Roxo, Silvia Gándara and Anay Marín, among others. The exhibition calendar, freely accessible and can be consulted until the end of February 2025 It’s Wednesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Lacia writer was satisfied with the location of the exhibition at a place rehabilitated in 2021 and transformed into a cultural space, which he visited this Saturday for the first time and which completes the heritage offering of the monastery, which he described as “a magnificent, wonderful place; “one of the most suggestive spaces of our heritage.”
