In Kaliningrad, a court has sentenced an American who kidnapped his son and tried to cross the Russian state border to six years in a maximum-security penal colony, the regional court’s press service reported.
“The court qualified the man’s actions under paragraph “d” of Part 2 of Art. 126 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – kidnapping committed against a known minor, under Part 3 of Art. 30, Part 1 Art. 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – attempting to cross the state border of the Russian Federation without valid documents for the right to leave the Russian Federation and without the appropriate permit obtained in the manner prescribed by the legislation of the Russian Federation,” – the message said.
According to the case file, on July 27, 2023, the defendant, a US citizen, arrived in Kaliningrad to meet his four-year-old Russian son. Without receiving the mother’s consent to take the child out of the country, on July 29, under the pretext of spending time together, the defendant took the child by car to the village Lipovka, Mamonovsky urban district, from where he wanted to take him out of Russia.
A man was detained by officers of the Russian FSB border department for the Kaliningrad region while trying to cross the border through a wooded and swampy area.
