Precious metals from cremated remains of residents are being sold in Japan

In nearly half of Japan’s major cities, authorities are selling precious metals from cremated remains to reduce cremation costs.

Oku.Az Nikkei Asia reported on the matter.

Kyoto City’s Health and Welfare Administration said in a statement that proceeds from the sale of metal from cremated remains are used to make cremation more convenient, including improving crematoriums. It should be noted that this practice has spread to 42 of the country’s 88 major cities.

It is noted that the peak mortality rate in Japan will occur in 2040 and will amount to 1.67 million people per year.
