Brazilian Minister: “Establishment of the carbon market is a priority to guarantee environmental integrity”

“Establishing a carbon market is a priority to ensure ecological integrity.”

“Informe” reports that this was stated by the Minister of Environment and Climate of Brazil, Marina Silva, in the press conference dedicated to the results of the first part of the closing plenary session of COP29.

“Articles 6.2 and 6.4 are complex and highly technical documents that also cover aspects of the national legislation of many countries. This has never been treated as a compensation: the creation of a carbon market not only in developed countries but also in many developing countries supported Therefore, this initiative has become a common task for many countries. It has been a long and difficult road. “We can move forward and create a sustainable carbon market. “This remains our top priority,” the minister said.

Silva also highlighted that last week in Brazil the national carbon market was approved.

The minister highlighted that its implementation will be carried out in parallel with the introduction of the international carbon market, after the approval of the country’s president, Luis InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva.

“This will ensure ecological integrity and create control mechanisms in accordance with international standards,” he added.
