Chinese Foreign Ministry calls on Japan not to politicize the killing of a Japanese child in China

The Japanese side should avoid politicizing and hyping up the attack and killing of a Japanese child in Shenzhen, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a meeting with his Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Earlier, Yoko Kamikawa said that the Japanese government intends to send three representatives to China following the death of a Japanese schoolboy in a knife attack in Shenzhen, China. According to the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the authorities intend to study in detail the circumstances of the incident in order to improve security measures for the movement of Japanese schoolchildren in China.

“China will investigate and take measures in accordance with the law regarding the attack on the Japanese schoolboy in Shenzhen, and will continue to protect the safety of all foreign nationals in China. The Japanese side should show composure and rationality and avoid politicization and exaggeration.” – Wang Yi was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The incident occurred last week in Shenzhen, China, in Guangdong province, when a student at a Japanese school was attacked. Chinese police arrested a 44-year-old man. The boy was hospitalized and on Thursday morning the Japanese consulate in Guangzhou reported that the boy died from his injuries.

According to the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Lin JianThe boy’s parents are Japanese citizens, his father is Japanese and his mother is Chinese. Beijing expressed its condolences.

Earlier, the Japanese diplomatic department reported that the Chinese ambassador in Tokyo Wu Jianghao He was summoned to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, where he was given a request regarding the attack on a Japanese schoolboy in the People’s Republic of China.

In June 2024, in the Chinese city of Suzhou, not far from Shanghai, a Japanese citizen, a woman and a child, who were waiting for a bus at a bus stop, were attacked with a knife. Then, during the incident, a Chinese citizen who tried to stop the attacker was killed.

The Chinese side believes that the attack incidents are not related to each other.
