Mental disorders observed among Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic

Two out of five Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic suffer from severe or moderate depression, and a quarter show signs of severe or moderate anxiety disorder, according to a research report by the SYRI National Institute.

Depression and anxiety problems among refugees mainly affect women and young people under 30. It is noted that a significant part of Ukrainians do not solve problems that arise with their mental health.

“These categories are at significantly higher risk for mental health problems,” – said a specialist from the National Institute SYRI and the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Matous Pilnaček.

According to him, a significant proportion of refugees who experience symptoms of anxiety or depression do not perceive them as mental health problems and consequently do not seek help.

Let us recall that after the start of a special military operation, millions of citizens of this country left Ukraine. According to official data, at least 350,000 Ukrainian refugees ended up in the Czech Republic.
