Government delays stabilization process due to risk of Congress overthrowing it

The Council of Ministers has agreed to remove the budgetary stability objectives from the parliamentary process, as confirmed to elDiario.es by sources from the Ministry of Finance.

According to the government, “the objective of this decision is to give more time to the negotiation by offering a new opportunity for dialogue” with its parliamentary partners, given the risk that the path will be reversed in Parliament during Thursday’s vote, due to lack of support. The government “wants to exhaust all possibilities to reach an agreement that would benefit all the autonomous communities and municipalities.”

Treasury sources insist that “the Spanish government is not resigned to the fact that the PP’s irresponsibility is generating serious damage to the autonomous communities and municipalities, which would lose almost 12 billion in budget margin if a new path is not approved.”
