The mighty storm Bertnamed by the Irish Weather Service, is already off the coast of the British Isles, undergoing “very deep” explosive cyclogenesis. Even if its direct effects will not be felt in Spain, an associated front will cause this Sunday rains in Galicia, Asturias, western Castile and León and northern Extremadura according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The intensity of wind gusts will reach 150 km/h in places.
Thus, the southerly winds will blow with intensity in the northern third of the peninsulaparticularly in mountainous and coastal areas where there will be “poor sea conditions”. Wind gusts will generally be around 80-90 km/h and the waves will be 4 or 5 meters high, especially in Galicia. ANDn The rest will have cloudy but rainless skies, with morning fog banks in many places.
Bert brings warm air masses, so temperatures will rise, with a very mild environment for this time of year continuing into next week. In The northern third of the peninsula will not drop below 13-15ºC in some points, such as San Sebastián or Lugo, and 20-22 ºC will be exceeded in the Cantabrian Sea and large areas of the southern half. These temperatures will be between five and ten degrees above than normal for this time of year according to Aemet.
Monday will be a day marked by the front associated with Storm Bert, which will cross the peninsula from west to east, leaving rains in most of the western, central and northern peninsulas. This precipitation will be abundant in the Pyrenees, the Cantabrian Sierra, western Castile and León and northern Extremadura, but will not reach the Mediterranean or the Balearic Islands.

There will be strong to very strong wind gusts over much of the northern half, particularly in mountainous areas. Temperatures will drop in the northwest of the peninsula, but increase in the east and south, with a hot day for the season, with values between 23 and 25 ºC in Huelva, Seville, Albacete or Badajoz. The snow level will be very high.
On Tuesday and the following days of next week, atmospheric stability is expected, with high pressures and little rain that will be limited to parts of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea. Fog banks characteristic of autumn are also expected at dawn and in the morning.
Temperatures will not undergo major changes and will continue with values between 5 and 10ºC above normal in large areas, and maximums in the middle of these days which could reach 18-20ºC almost universally. There will be frost in high mountain areas and winds will generally not be very intense,
In the Canary Islands, cloudiness will increase, with it’s raining locally intense and accompanied by a thunderstorm until Monday in the Western Isles. During the following days, the rains will continue, but lighter and limited to the most mountainous islands. Temperatures will drop over the weekend, but will rise again mid-next week.
