On November 24, for the first time in the history of trade relations between Azerbaijan and China, export goods were sent from Baku to China by rail.
Oku.Az JSC “Azerbaijan Railways” published information in this regard.
It was noted that in addition to sending transit and import cargoes from China to Azerbaijan through the Middle Corridor international transport route, the delivery of export cargoes from Azerbaijan to China further increases the efficiency of this corridor. The rapid development of the Middle Corridor drives the increase in cargo transportation volume in both East-West and West-East directions.
The launching ceremony of the first export train was attended by the high delegation of the Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan Railways, the leaders of the Secretariat of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the leaders of the Management Committee of the Xi’an Changba International Port of China .
It should be noted that the first export block train “Baku-Xian” consists of 62 40-foot containers. This cargo will be delivered multimodally through Kazakhstan to the port of Xi’an, one of the largest land ports in China. Within the framework of the project, it is initially planned to send a total of 15 thousand tons, that is, 600 containers of export cargo to China via the aforementioned route, at the end of this year.
It should be noted that the regular shipment of export cargoes to China opens up new opportunities for the growth of cargo transportation and transshipment volumes and income of Absheron Logistics Center, Baku International Sea Trade Port and CJSC “Azerbaijan Khazar Sea Shipping”, in addition by ADY. . This cooperation, as a clear example of public-private partnership, is an example of the efficient and coordinated work of the main operators in the Azerbaijan segment of the Middle Corridor.
So, if the aforementioned export products earlier went to the world market through the ports of Georgia on the Black Sea, now, in parallel with these operations, ADY, Absheron Logistics Center, Baku International Sea Trade Port and Azerbaijan Caspian Sea Shipping CJSC are Using Azerbaijan’s own ports and new logistics facilities, they will implement this process directly by creating solutions.
It should be recalled that since the beginning of 2024, 280 container block trains have been sent from the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan. Until the end of this year, it is planned to receive more than 300 container block trains from China on the route corresponding to Azerbaijan. It is planned to increase the number of block trains more than three times to 1,000 by 2025.
