The construction of the IES Son Ferriol is a historical requirement something that the residents of the neighborhood have been demanding for more than three decades, given the constant increase in the population of more than 10,000 inhabitants.

In January of this year, the government declared the construction of this educational center, which will be located on two hectares of municipal property, as an investment of public interest. will have 20 ESO units, six high schools and a UEECO classroom, for a total capacity of 810 school places.

Currently, the Palma City Council has an approved execution project in which municipal requirements have been incorporated regarding the mandatory reporting of the different departments of the corporation. The actions included in the provision of services are the execution of a new roundabout in front of the future IES plot and the new access road to the aforementioned institute.

It will be the first educational center with a almost zero energy consumptionwith a nominal installed power of photovoltaic panels of approximately 90 kW.

The building typology will be compact: it will be distributed around an open-air interior cloister, with a ground floor and two upper floors. It will have good accessibility and the possibility of future horizontal expansions.

The project provides for zero emissions and high energy efficiency. This is why the facades are closed by galleries with solar protection to facilitate the use of natural means of environmental control.

At a press conference after the meeting of the Urban Planning Department, the advisor Oscar Fidalgo also reported that the Consell Consultiu has agreed with the Palma City Council to unilaterally terminate the contract with the Territorial and city company to which the previous socialist government granted, for almost a million euros, the development of the new General Urban Plan.

A breach of contract for “intolerable incompetence”, as described by Fidalgo last April, who reminded the media on Tuesday of the repeated and constant non-compliance with the delivery deadlines of the Detailed Urban Plan (POD) which the municipal elected officials had to assume the development of.

In order to achieve greater agility and efficiency in its drafting, the City Council agreed that the municipal legal services would resolve the contract that the City Council maintained with the aforementioned concessionaire and that it would be the urban planning technicians themselves who would carry out the development of the future POD so that its public exhibition could begin as soon as possible.

This is why the City Council, in collaboration with Tramiteco, the College of Real Estate Administrators of the Balearic Islands and Baumit, organised a day on 26 September to explain to residents how to access aid.

The scheduled day at Nou Levante will be at 5:00 p.m. and is part of this phase of disseminating the project to neighbors. To this end, in addition to explaining the existing aids and the functioning of the Rehabilitation Guidance Service, The example of Orcasitas will also be presented, a modest neighborhood in the south of Madrid that has become a European reference as a model of energy efficiency.

Throughout the presentation to residents, they will be informed about the specific rehabilitation needs of the La Soledat and Nou Levante neighborhoods, as well as the materials and technologies that will be used for the interventions.
