Blackpink Becomes First K-Pop Artist to Headline Coachella 2023

Being able to perform at a prestigious music festival is certainly a source of pride for every musician and their fans. Like the South Korean girl group Blackpink who was just announced to be one of the main performers or headliners at Coachella this year. The biggest music festival in the United States is certainly in the public spotlight because it is a place to prove the world’s best musicians.

Blackpink being chosen as the headliner at Coachella is certainly a proud achievement for Blink or their fans. Moreover, Blackpink is the representative of K-pop music artists in the prestigious music festival.

Coachella announces three headliners including Blackpink

Goldenvoice as the promoter of the festival has just announced the lineup or list of performers at Coachella 2023 on Tuesday (10/1) morning Indonesian time. In the announcement uploaded via the official Instagram account, they released the names of three top stars who will be the main performers.

First, there is Bad Bunny, a performer from Puerto Rico, second, there is Blackpink as a South Korean artist representing K-Pop, and third, musician Frank Ocean.

According to Billboard, the list of headliners for Coachella 2023 is considered to be more representative of various characters and music genres. Moreover, Blackpink was chosen as the representative of the K-Pop music taste which is now very global. It is not surprising that the list of performers at Coachella 2023 received a more enthusiastic welcome. Last year, Coachella 2022 featured Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and the gang from 88rising as the headliners.

Blackpink becomes the first K-Pop group to headline Coachella

Blackpink’s appearance on the Coachella stage is not the first time. Previously, the group consisting of Jisoo, Rose, Jennie, and Lisa had also performed on the Coachella 2019 stage. However, at that time they appeared as performers, not the main performers. At that time, the K-pop group that performed was not only Blackpink but also Hyukoh. Even before that, there was Epik High who became the first K-Pop idol to perform at Coachella in 2016.

Well, after waiting 4 years, finally Blackpink will return to the prestigious festival stage, even as the headliner. Blackpink’s selection as the headliner at Coachella is a historical record because they managed to become the first K-Pop idol to headline Coachella.

It is known that Coachella 2023 is planned to be held at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California on April 14-16 and April 21-23, 2023. Blackpink is scheduled to perform on April 15 and 22, 2022. Meanwhile, the performing artists include Rosalia, Eric Prydz Holo, Boygenius, and so on.

Meanwhile, Bad Bunny is scheduled to perform on April 14 and 21, 2022, alongside performers Gorillaz, Burna Boy, Chemical Brother, and more. Lastly, Frank Ocean will perform on April 16 and 23, 2023, alongside performers Bjork, Kali Uchis, Porter Robinson, and more.

Currently, Blackpink is busy on a world concert tour by performing songs on the Born Pink album. After the American and European Concert Tour, now Blackpink is on a concert tour in Asia. The news that they will be the main performers certainly makes Blinks, and Blackpink fans excited, especially since the festival will be held in two months.
