Civil Guard searches for third time for emails related to Pedro Sánchez’s brother’s contract at Badajoz Provincial Council

The Civil Guard returns for the third time to the Provincial Council of Badajoz and does so, once again, to search for emails related to the contract of David Sánchez in 2017, brother of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. It was the provincial institution that informed through a statement of the presence of the agents of the Central Operational Unit.

This action is part of the investigation carried out by the Instruction Court 3 of Badajoz, where David Sánchez is being investigated for alleged crimes of embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds and influence peddling following a complaint filed by Manos Liminas.

An order issued at the beginning of last July authorized the first intervention of the UCO before the Provincial Council to obtain the working documents related to Sánchez, head of the Office of Performing Arts. A week after the first recording, and following a failure to download the information collected in the emails, because there were “temporary spaces covered by a judicial authorization and that did not show content”, the president of the court authorized a new appearance of the UCO.

At the end of July, lawyer Emilio Cortés, who represents David Sánchez, requested the cancellation of the investigation into the emails seized by the UCO, considering that their interception “violates the secrecy of communications”, one of the reasons that supports the legal appeal for reform that he presented. However, the investigating court rejected this request.
