The duration of education in Russian schools and universities may be reduced in order to enable earlier entry into the professional field, said Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Military History Society (RVIO).
“Time dictates a reduction in the duration of secondary education; the fact that we have 11 years is an unaffordable luxury. It is as if we were living in the 19th century. We have to compress it so that later you can enter the field of vocational training earlier and be competitive, and not start at 19 years old thinking about what to do. Everything will be earlier and faster.” – TASS quotes Medinsky.
The presidential adviser also did not rule out the possibility that the traditional five- or six-year university education will also become a thing of the past in the next decade.
“Education will be compressed in time, it will be more specialized, it will be designed for the next 10 years and then, after 10 years, it will be necessary to retrain. Anyone who does not learn something new will simply not be competitive.” – Medinsky predicts.
