The Miguelturra Carnival, declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest in 2018, has “on the horizon” to aspire to international recognition. “It’s something that can be valued. I’m not closing the doors on us, but as we go up the steps, things get more complicated,” said the mayor, Luis Ramón Mohíno, in an interview with Europa Press.
Mohíno believes that Carnival “consolidates itself from year to year”, so it is a question of continuing to work to make it an event “safer, cleaner and with greater and greater projection”. Currently, “there are few corners of Spain where this Carnival is not known”, thanks above all to work of the clubs, “which are organized in a wonderful way” and to which the only thing the city council must do is “support”.
With the Association of Clubs, it is “with whom all decisions are made and who traces the path year after year”. They are now immersed in the search for the crier of the next edition. It is also planned to continue the development of Carnival Museumintegrating exhibitions to make it “a meeting point”, in addition to strengthening carnival relations with other municipalities such as Tarazona de La Mancha.
Finally, the mayor lacks more help from other administrations. “We don’t understand that anyone has to pay us for the party, but we have support. I raised this topic everywhere I went, in the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, within the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha,” he says.
