We are faced with the proposals of the government and the PP to reduce working hours: what impact would they have on workers?

In the PP they sell it as a total change. Feijoo He expressed this Tuesday that opens to negotiate reduction of working hours that the Government intends to approve. But first, the leader of the popular parties emphasizes, several conditions must be taken into account: “When we talk about productivity, about reducing temporary disabilities, in certain sectors we will be able to evaluate whether it is possible that by working fewer days per week, we have the same productivity.”

But is it opening up? What is the PP’s real proposal? A very different situation from that of the Government. The Ministry of Labour wants Every day we work half an hour less. Seven and a half hours compared to eight at present. But Feijóo’s proposal is this: a four-day work week and nine-hour or nine-and-a-half-hour days. Although it would not be for all sectors.

“How can we do this? You see. Can we work nine hours and four days a week? Can we work nine and a half hours and four days a week? It is obvious that this is not the case in this program or in other productive sectors. But maybe in other sectors, yes,” Feijóo proposed.

In the PP, it seems that Feijóo’s idea is not so clear. They say that they will be finalized in the coming weeks. And the government responds: it believes that we are facing a new improvisation of Feijóo, who it sees as completely lost. The Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, insists that her proposal, that of the government, would improve productivity: “Reducing the working day improves the productivity of companiesthe life of workers”.

And in the meantime, the unions continue to put pressure on. It is necessary approve the reduction of working hours now and they announce mobilizations for Thursday in front of the businessmen’s headquarters. They demand that the CEOE give in. And the CEOE responds: they will not accept a proposal that does not convince them.
