Residents of the city of Lopburi, Thailand, opened festive tables with plenty of fruit and sweets for the long-tailed macaques that live here.
Oku.Az TASS reports that thousands of monkeys have settled in the historic part of the city.
The history of the monkey festival dates back to at least the 13th century. For 25 years, the organizers of the festival, which is held every year in Lopburi on the last Sunday in November, have placed fruits, vegetables and sweets on the tables.
At first, the monkeys take sweets and run away from the table, but after getting used to it, they jump on the food with all their paws.
The primates are not just residents of Lopburi, they are a symbol of the entire province. It is related to Indian mythology and the epic “Ramayana”.
