Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to contacts with the heads of countries that are permanent members of the UN Security Council, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov told Izvestia this, answering a question about whether the Russian leader’s proposal made in 2020 is still valid.
“The president remains open to contacts, but for obvious reasons the prospect of such a meeting is no longer realistic,” – said the official representative of the Kremlin.
On February 18, 2022, Peskov noted that the Russian leader’s initiative to hold a summit “was still on the table.” The spokesman added that such a possible meeting would involve discussing key challenges.
On January 23, 2020, Vladimir Putin proposed holding a summit of leaders of permanent member countries of the UN Security Council to discuss global issues. In 2021, the head of the Russian Federation again stated that he was counting on such a meeting.
