Suspect charged with attempted assassination of Trump in US

In the United States, Ryan Wesley Root, 58, has been formally charged with attempting to assassinate former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, the Associated Press reports.

He was previously charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Under the new charge, Root faces up to life in prison.
