Last Saturday, Arguedas successfully celebrated the tenth edition of Rice Daya day in which, despite the early hours marked by rain, residents and visitors did not hesitate to participate, enjoying this traditional festival organized by the Arguedas City Council. The weather improved throughout the morning, allowing the celebration to take place normally.
The most significant thing about this day was great paelladaduring which 225 kilos of rice were cooked, allowing more than 2,400 portions of paella to be distributed among the participants, of whom more than 800 people gathered to eat and for the subsequent event in the tent set up by the town hall.
One of the highlights of the day was the appointment of the Mayor Rice 2024figure introduced for the first time in this tenth edition. The chosen one was Floren Domezaina local chef who owns a Michelin-starred restaurant in Madrid. His recognition is a moving tribute to his career and his roots in Arguedas.
The mayor of Arguedas, Jose Luis Sanzhighlighted the great involvement of the town’s residents despite the climatic difficulties, stating that “despite the rain at the beginning of the day, the people of Arguedas demonstrated once again their commitment and enthusiasm, going out to participate and enjoy with their neighbors.”
Likewise, the mayor stressed the importance of having introduced the figure of the mayor of Arrocero on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the festivalcommenting that “it is an honor to have great chefs and we want this festival to continue growing and consolidating, involving more gastronomic references.”
In addition to the traditional paella competition, which is already a classic rice dayParticipants were also able to enjoy a full program of activities, such as the local produce market, the little train through the rice fields of Arguedas, and various musical performances, such as the Puro Relajo concert under the tent after the meal.
The Arguedas City Council was very satisfied with the way the event went and hopes that the Rice Day continues to be one of the most anticipated events in the city’s festive calendar, promoting local gastronomy and culture.
