The summer of 2024 was the hottest ever recorded in Slovakia

This summer will be the warmest in the history of meteorological observations in Slovakia since 1931, according to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ).

The expected average air temperature in Slovakia in summer 2024 will be 20.7 degrees, almost 0.5 degrees higher than the record high in 2022. It should be noted that since 2019, the average summer temperature in the country will exceed 20 degrees for the third time. July 2024 was the warmest month on record in Slovakia, with an average temperature of 21.7 degrees, and August was the second or third hottest month on record.

The highest temperature for the summer of 2024 in Slovakia was reported to be 38.3 degrees on August 14 in the village of Muzla in the Nitra region. The absolute highest temperatures in Slovakia were recorded in 2007 and 2013, when the maximum temperature in the south of the country exceeded 40 degrees.

Let us recall that July 2024 became the second hottest month in the history of the planet. The average temperature was 16.91 degrees. This is four hundredths of a degree less than the figure for July last year, which held the absolute record.
