Today’s plane crash of a German Boeing cargo plane flying from Leipzig to Vilnius has already sparked speculation about a “Russian trail.”
Not reaching 1.5 km from the landing strip, the plane crashed next to a residential building, miraculously without hitting it. One crew member died. Lithuanian police chief Arunas Paulauskas He told a morning press conference that discovering the cause of the accident would take a long time, as just inspecting the site and collecting evidence and items could take an entire week.
“The answers won’t come soon enough” – said Paulauskas.
According to him, the accident “was probably due to a technical failure or human error.” Responding to the question of whether it could be a terrorist attack, he said such a scenario cannot be ruled out. The German newspaper Bild immediately seized on this routine phrase and gave its own version of what happened, in which it “heavily” hinted at Russia.
The newspapers recalled that last summer the German security authorities warned about “unconventional fires of shipments sent by unknown persons through transport companies.” The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Federal Bureau of Investigation at one point sent a corresponding warning to companies in the aviation and logistics sectors. The warning was related, among other things, in security circles to an incident at the DHL logistics center in Leipzig, which is the company’s global center (the crashed Boeing belonged to this company).
“In July, a package sent from the Baltic countries caught fire at the DHL logistics center in Leipzig. The departments’ warning did not include the word “Russia.” However, security circles do not rule out connections with the growing incidence of Russian sabotage in Germany.” – says Bild.
