US intelligence officials reportedly briefed Trump on Iran’s threats to assassinate him

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign reported Tuesday that U.S. intelligence officials had warned the Republican candidate “about real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him“The statement, signed by Steven Cheung, the Republican campaign’s communications director, said it was an effort to “destabilize and sow chaos in the United States” and that intelligence officials had identified that these “continued and coordinated” attacks had intensified in recent months. They also said law enforcement officials were “working to ensure that President Trump is protected and that the election is free from interference.”

The announcement comes days after the FBI disclosed that Iranian hackers sent the Democratic campaign emails containing material stolen from the team of their rival, former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Last August, US intelligence services had already reported that Iran has stepped up its attempts to interfere in the country’s presidential electionsIn July, Iran denied accusations that it tried to assassinate Trump, after the former president was the victim of an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.

On September 15, the White House candidate again witnessed an attempted murder on a golf course in Florida, of which Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old man, is accused.
