Journalists from the Italian newspaper The Republic They called for a strike on Wednesday and Thursday to protest against “the serious interference in the journalistic activity of the publisher and its companies”, that is, the GEDI group, owned by the Agnelli family.
Journalists protest interference, especially during “Italian Technology Week” (Italian Technology Week), organized by Vento, one of the companies that control Agnellis’ investment fund Exor Ventures, and for which the newspaper has prepared a 100-page special, in which many companies have contributed, as revealed by the editorial staff.
“For some time now, we have been denouncing attempts to subject our colleagues to practices that are far from correct in terms of ethics and respect for the national agreement,” the newspaper’s editorial staff denounces. The Republic.
In a statement, the journalists explained that “management must make all possible corrections and safeguards to strengthen the protection structures of all content of The Republica subject on which a motion of censure has already been voted against the current director in recent months.”
But also, they add, “We look to the publisher – not the owner – of The Republic John Elkann (grandson of Gianni Agnelli) so that you have a deep respect for our dignity as professionals and the value of our newspaper.
“A newspaper with its own history and identity that cannot be trampled underfoot. The democracy that we defend every day in our pages also depends on mutual respect for roles at work,” they add.
The GEDI Group records an average of 5.5 million userswhich places it as one of the largest Italian and European publishing groups and owns newspapers such as The Republic And The Stamp and magazines like National Geographic as well as radio stations and advertising and communications agencies.
