An illegal screening of the film “The Master and Margarita” by director Mikhail Lokshin took place in France. This is stated in a statement by the production company Mars Media.
“The copyright holders of the film “The Master and Margaret” officially declare that the special screening of the film that took place in France has not been approved and has nothing to do with the official international distribution of the film.” , – says the statement.
It is clarified that so far the rights to the film have been sold to several countries, the screenings have taken place in Italy, Türkiye and Israel. The film will be released in France later.
“The producers of the film will sue the exhibitors who violated legal regulations” – the company also warns.

Almost immediately information appeared that the director of the film “The Master and Margarita” Mikhail Lokshin actively cares about Ukraine. According to the Readovka telegram channel, Lokshin, who from the first day of the special military operation adopted an active pro-Ukrainian position, continued filming the film and did not refuse money from the “aggressor country.” The director’s social networks contain posts both in support of Navalny and sympathy for Ukraine. Furthermore, he published several posts during the filming of the film, without experiencing any dissonance.
After the scandal broke, the producers of the Master and Margarita project, Mars Media and Profit, issued a joint statement. They explained that the film began filming in 2018 and that the entire filming process was completed in the fall of 2021, before the start of a special military operation. At the same time, the director, who later began publishing articles in support of Ukraine, returned to the United States, where he is a citizen.
