Civil Guard arrests Moroccan jihadist in Caspe who spread propaganda against Israel

The Civil Guard Information Service has just arrested an individual in Caspe (Zaragoza) for the alleged commission of terrorist crimes. This person, immersed in an advanced process of jihadist radicalization, would have carried out indoctrination activities on third parties.

According to sources close to the investigation, he is a 39-year-old man of Moroccan nationality. The arrest comes as part of Operation Hadaba.

This detainee was already under investigation by the counterterrorism services of the Armed Institute for his jihadist activity since 2017 on a virtual level. Currently, this activity focuses on the dissemination of content related to “martyrs and mujahideen” who act against Israel.

The investigation is a consequence of the analysis of information obtained as part of the first phase of Operation Almuasasa. In this document, the Civil Guard and the FBI dismantled what is considered the largest digital propaganda distribution structure used by the terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS).

The relevance of the structure studied lies not only in the enormous amount of terrorist material to which it provides access, but also in its design, composed of a complex structure of servers specifically configured to be resilient.

Through the study of the evidence of this operation, the Information Service was able to verify the indoctrination activities of the current detainee on one of the individuals detained in the aforementioned operation.

Unstable profile

The arrested person presents an unstable profile which, combined with his jihadist activism, has increased the level of risk he could represent to national security.

Many individuals who have carried out violent terrorist actions in Europe in recent years They correspond to a profile similar to that of the inmatehaving committed violent incidents in their communities and having shown signs of mental instability.

In 2019, the European Commission’s Steering Committee for the Prevention of Radicalization included among the strategic priorities for the prevention of radicalization the analysis of the impact of mental problems on people who commit sudden acts of violence.

The Hadaba operation was developed by the Information Service of the Civil Guard under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction No. 1 and the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court, which decreed the entry into prison of the detainee for the alleged commission of terrorism crimes.

Counterterrorism operations, which coincide with the anniversary of the Hamas attacks in Israel, are taking place these days without interruption. A week and a half ago, The national police arrested two jihadists for spreading Daesh messages and postulates via social networks.

THE General Information Commission (CGI) of the National Police Last Tuesday, an anti-terrorist operation was deployed in Melilla during which two more people were arrested for crimes linked to jihadist terrorism.
