The President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens (PP), assured on this International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25N) that every victim of gender-based violence is a “collective failure“, because it represents a woman about whom the administrations “did not act in time” and to whom “they couldn’t help“.
During an event organized at the Estudi General Lul·lià, Prohens indicated that the 25N is a day that is commemorated with “sadness“, because it is the day when we remember the victims of gender-based violence, but he stressed that this is also done from “justification” and for “don’t fall into indifference“.
The leader of the Regional Executive stressed that it is a fight which concerns “all administrations” and which requires “put all the means”, because we must demand the “maximum” for the protection and safety of all women.
“Without prejudice to recognizing the progress and all the committed work carried out by so many professionals involved in this daily struggle of the different institutions, It’s not my style to fall into complacency.“, he said.
It is for this reason that he called for the best from all parties in this fight, he encouraged everyone to give in, not to let down their guard, to never allow the stories of the victims to turn into numbers and in statistics, to “do everything possible”. the experience and professionalism necessary to protect all women.
Recognition of entities and organizations
There, a delivery from recognitions to entities and organizations for their fight against gender-based violence, such as the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation of the Balearic Islands, the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police , the Women and Minors team (Emume) of the Civil Guard or 112 of the General Directorate of Emergencies, among others.
A tribute was also paid to the memory of 40 women victims of gender violence murdered in Spain in 2024 and the reading of the manifesto against gender violence was carried out.
In addition, he called for awareness – focused this year on young people – to avoid normalizing and detecting sexist behaviors and attitudes that can lead to other forms of gender-based violence.
Prohens expressed the “maximum commitment” of the Executive to collaborate with all media and valued the transversal work carried out by the Government, but especially by the Department of Families and Social Services, and especially by IbDona.
Precisely, he pointed out that in this year’s budgets the IbDona allowance is increased and that a lawyer has been integrated into the 24-hour customer service to also be able to advise women on possible needs that may arise.
