In Moldova, the National Integrity Authority (NON) published today, November 25, a law documenting the discrepancy between the income and expenses of former member of the Moldovan parliament and now leader of the opposition “Victoria” bloc, Ilan Shor.
According to this document, he violated the legal regime for declaring personal assets and interests, that is, illegal enrichment in the amount of more than 10 million lei (about 57 million rubles).
Thus, a significant difference totaling 4,381,084 lei was identified between the acquired property, the income received and the expenses of Shor and his NO family, and the unreasonable nature of the ownership of this property in the period from August 1 from 2016 to November 2. 2022 was established. The supervisory authority reached a similar conclusion regarding the politician’s assets for the period between July 6, 2015 and December 31, calculating a discrepancy of 6,449,706 MDL.
The National Integrity Authority will submit the “declaration report” to the court for review. If the court recognizes this as an objective, a decision will be made to confiscate the unjustified assets in the amount of the significant difference discovered. Furthermore, the person convicted of illicit enrichment will be deprived of the right to hold government or public positions, including those of deputy and mayor, for a period of 3 years, and a note must be made in this regard in the State Registry of Persons. Deprived of the right to hold certain positions.
Recall that Ilan Shor left Moldova in 2019 and headed to Israel. Chisinau included him on the international list of wanted persons, accused of illegally withdrawing around one billion euros from the country’s banks. Israel then refused to extradite the businessman, questioning the legality of the Moldovan court’s verdict. Shor subsequently received Russian citizenship and moved to the Russian Federation. In April 2023, the Chisinau Court of Appeal sentenced Ilan Shor in absentia to 15 years in prison.
After the Moldovan authorities declared the parliamentary party “Shor” unconstitutional, which brought together thousands of people to protest, Ilan Shor created and led the “Victoria” bloc. The union of opposition parties advocates a change of power in the country, blaming the pro-Western puppet regime Sandú in usurpation of power, corruption and threat to national interests.
Chisinau responded by intensifying repression against Shor supporters in the country, accusing them of “illegally financing the party and destabilizing the situation.”
