Defendant’s road accident leads to suspension of trial for ‘cooking’ cocaine in Illescas

The car accident that Juan Pablo suffered this morning, while he was going to the Provincial Court of Toledo to be tried, forced the suspension of the hearing scheduled for this Wednesday against five accused of “cooking” cocaine in a house in Illescas in 2016. The injuries are not serious after the car he was driving overturned, although he was hospitalized on October 12 to monitor his progress.

Juan Pablo himself called Diego Zayas, his lawyer, to inform him of the incident. The call came after an agreement had already been reached between the prosecution and the lawyers of the five defendants, four Spaniards and one Colombian.

The agreement, which must be ratified in court on Wednesday, October 2, contains a reduction in the sentences initially requested by the Public Ministry. It requested a sentence of three years and three months to five years and three months, in addition to a financial fine or payment of a civil liability sum for Juan Pablo, Antonio Alfonso, José Luis, Miguel Ángel and Daniel.

However, compliance was achieved through a significant reduction in prison sentences and apply unjustified delays (delay) as a highly qualified mitigating circumstancesince the events took place in the conflict region of La Sagra eight and a half years ago.

In a chalet in Illescas, a Colombian “cook” expert named Juan Pablo was giving advice on extracting cocaine arriving from South America impregnated with different materials or dissolved in liquids. “One of the most important drug workshops dismantled in Spain”said then the chief commissioner of the Central Narcotics Brigade, Ricardo Toro, about an operation in which the intercepted telephone communications of the accused were also essential to its resolution.

In the case of Antonio Alfonso, for whom the prosecutor requested the highest sentence, he will sign two years in prison and a 7,000 euro fine, as well as the suspension of the custodial sentence provided that he does not commit crimes during this period, as explained by his lawyer, Jorge Martínez Navas.

His client, behind bars convicted of murder, He arrived in a National Police car and handcuffed.while the three who were sitting on the bench did so on foot, because they are on provisional release.

Miguel Ángel, José Luis and Daniel accepted a sentence of one year and seven months in prison, in addition to paying 4,000 euros each, according to their duty lawyer. Pilar Barroso received the procedure in this case a month ago, a separate element of another case discovered by the National Police of the province of Alicante.

The lawyer highlighted the change in life of some of those involved, such as Miguel Ángel, who “He made a mistake and it hits him now like a bucket of cold water, because he works and leads a quiet and orderly life.”

Colombian Juan Pablo, the only one who did not appear in court due to his road accident, was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison, although he eventually accepted two years and a fine of 7,000 euros, as well as the suspension of the sentence on condition that he did not commit any crimes during this period.

However, there will be no regular trial next week and the thirteen students of the professional certificate of private security who went to the Palace of Justice for the first time, led by their professor Juan Gregorio, have lost a great opportunity to see a hearing for a crime against public health.
