Government reinforces Foreign Affairs unease over Mexico’s lack of respect for King Felipe VI

The government has responded clearly and energetically to Mexico’s veto to invite King Felipe VI at the inauguration of the new Mexican president. The Minister of Defense, Marguerite Roblesconsidered that Spain “cannot accept the exclusion” of the monarch, something it does not understand.

“If the head of state is excluded, Spain will not be represented, which we regret very much because the Mexican people are a brother people,” added Robles, a position also shared within the Popular Party, as he stated. Borja Always.

“His Majesty the King is the representative, logically, and if His Majesty the King is not invited, Spain is logically not invited, of course. Respect for His Majesty the King and respect for Spain, of course,” he shared.

However, in the other part of the coalition government, the opinion is very different. Sumar’s spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, Inigo Errejonconsidered that Mexico is “a sovereign country to decide who it invites and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decides what it does with these invitations.”

They respect the decision of the Foreign Affairs, even if they do not share it. Despite this, Yolanda Diaz who had been invited to the inauguration, canceled her presence. “We would have liked to have a Spanish representation because we warmly welcome the arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum to the presidency of Mexico,” added Errejón.

Others have been more explicit in their position, such as a Gabriel Rufian which was concise: “Mexicans especially on their independence day and also in songs and records and today I paraphrase: Long live Mexico, you bastards“.
