The company Google accused Microsoft before the European Commission of imposing the use of its cloud platform, Azure, and of restrictions on its licenses that prevent companies from transferring content stored on its platform to competing clouds, even if there are no technical barriers that justify it.
It must be remembered that Brussels A formal investigation against the computer giant impose Teams to Office users, and that it will now proceed to “analyze the complaint according to normal procedures.”
Google vs. Microsoft Policies
As Google denounces, the restrictive policies of Microsoft have “forced” some Windows Server clients to use Azure or assume a price increase of “400%” to be able to use other competitors’ cloud services.
“This has caused significant harm to European businesses and governments: stifling competition, costing €1 billion per year, and increasing the risk for organizations to be exposed to Microsoft’s inadequate security culture,” Google said in a statement.
Google also denounces that Microsoft has already been “trapping” ‘Teams’ customers for years through anti-competitive practices which is now replicated in the cloud and which, in addition to the cost for European companies, has generated “negative effects” such as higher costs for taxpayers or “restrictions for distributors and reseller partners”.
