The Calvià City Council has accepted an increase of up to 23% in the garbage rate, while recalling that this increase should have been approved on January 1, 2023. The city council estimated that collecting up to €900,000 less in 2024 than in 2012 for a service was “totally unsustainable”.

They also pointed out that from 2012 to 2024, the turnover for the collection, treatment and disposal of waste increased from 15.4 to 14.5 million euros, i.e. Revenues decreased by 900,000 euros.
The PSIB, for its part, criticized the increase in rates, arguing that last year “they left a healthy city hall” with a surplus of two million euros.
According to the calculations of the socialists, with the increase, a house of 69 square meters will pay 30.6 euros morea cafeteria of more than 100 square meters, 701 euros more and a supermarket of 250 square meters will see their bill increase by more than 1,000 euros.
The socialists also criticised the fact that the new government team had already budgeted for a debt of 10 million euros.
“In the last elections, PP and Vox promised to lower taxes. It has been shown that they lied to citizens and now they are applying a ‘garbage’ that they will notice in their pockets,” said the socialist spokesperson, Nati Francés.
The PSIB also criticised the fact that the City Council applied this rate increase after closing the year with a surplus, “after spreading the rumour for a year that it had left the City Council without money”.
