The rain did not calm the voices of those who raised theirs for those who were not there: hundreds of women, but also men, participated this Monday in the demonstration in Vigo for the International Day against gender-based violence. The march started from Vía Norte and ended at Rúa Colónat the intersection of the four banks, where the official manifesto was read.
At 8:00 p.m., the first chants began to be heard by the leaders of the demonstration: “We are not all there, the murdered women have disappeared”, “Enough of patriarchal violence” either “No e no, o demas é viol.” It was these slogans that were initially performed, although as the march progressed others were also heard, such as “Putero, by paying you also violate” either “Na casa, na street, let us be safe.”
The Vigo Local Police escorted the concentration, which took place without incident, although It was marked, in the case of the city of olive trees, by division. Resposta Feminista began its response earlier, at 7 p.m., at the same time and after having failed to reach an agreement with the Rede de Mulleres Veciñais against the Malos Tratos de Vigo. The first group showed its disagreement with an alleged “instrumentalization” of the second by the Council of Vigo.
The rain caught the protesters halfway, so the umbrellas took center stage in the final stretch. The collective “Somos elas” was also the protagonist because of an emotional memory for those who are no longer here: Dressed in white and in complete silence, they closed the march.
The crossing of the four banks was the point chosen for the reading of the manifesto, this put an end to the proclamations.
