Alexey Kopaygorodsky, the former mayor of Sochi who voluntarily went to the zone of military operations in Ukraine, was detained in Luhansk on the night of September 25 and taken to Moscow.
Oku.Az RIA Novosti reports that an investigation is underway against Kopaygorodsky. He is accused of inefficient spending of state funds.
His house was reportedly searched and his wife Anastasia Gredina was brought to the Investigative Committee to testify.
Alexey Kopaygorodsky, the mayor of Sochi since 2019, resigned in May 2024. It was reported that his dismissal was due to his transfer to another job. Krasnodar Governor Venyamin Kondratiev announced Kopaygorodsky’s resignation, noted his high professionalism and stressed that the resignation was his decision. Andrey Proshunin, former vice-governor of the Krasnodar region, was appointed as the new mayor.
