Sánchez finalizes his executive with Madrid’s Enma López as a bet

In an increasingly rarefied climate, firstly due to the explosive statement before the judge by Commissioner Víctor de Aldama, who accuses, among others, the number 3 of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, of collecting bribes ; and then for the ABC exclusive on the leader of the Madrid socialists, Juan Lobato, who will testify next Friday before the Supreme Court in the trial against the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, is taking place this weekend in Seville the 41st Federal Congress of the PSOE.

Without discussion, as is evident, on the re-election of Pedro Sánchez as secretary general, the question focuses on how he will configure his new executive. The first thing is the ratification of his number two, both within the party and in the government, María Jesús Montero, who seems to be sidelined. And the second, and the one that raises the most doubts, concerns the future of Cerdán himself, who, although he has gained more political weight than ever in the last year, thanks to his work as lead negotiator with Junts per Catalunya, Secret trips to Geneva, notably to see Carles Puigdemont – this accusation from Aldama also weighs on him.

What ultimately happens is of course only in Sánchez’s head, and it may not even be one hundred percent closed yet. But the clues and impressions of the socialist leaders consulted by this newspaper point in two directions. First, there will be no notable layoffs, or in other words, Cerdán will remain in his position. And another, that the main novelty will be the city councilor of Madrid, Enma Lopez (Vigo, 1986), senior official of the Treasury and State Insurance and personality with a long history in the party, who was one of the pillars of the organization of the conclave.

Some see her as a possible spokesperson to replace Esther Peña, in office for a year, after replacing the current government spokesperson, Pilar Alegría. And others point out that this could be nothing more than a runway to take off to greater heights, at least in the Madrid region, where it could well become Ferraz’s bet to lead the Socialist Party of Madrid (PSM), again courtesy of Ferraz. himself Juan Lobato, who said it a thousand times. his intention to continue leading the party.

After the Federal Congress, which is being held a year in advance, the previous one having taken place in 2021 in Valencia, the regional congresses and a good part of their leadership will be renewed. Madrid is a controversial case, due to the growing distance between the PSM and the leadership of Sánchez, which experienced another even more acute episode yesterday, where neither the government nor the party closed ranks with Lobato. But there are other places with troubled waters.

Tudança and Lambán

The most troubled of the territories is Castilla y León, where the primary calendar has already caused significant friction with the regional leader, Luis Tudanca, a lifelong pro-sanchista who however rebelled against the leadership and, above all, against the Cerdán methods in the device.

In Aragon, the departure of former regional president Javier Lambán still has no solution, and Minister Alegría, in principle called to take office, has not taken the necessary step forward. It is also not clear whether this continues Juan Espadas as leader of the Andalusian PSOE. The federations are accumulating frustration over the failure of the 2023 regional elections and confusion over scandals like the “Koldo case”.
