In Sumgayit, a man tried to strangle his ex-wife

Ramal, born in 1984 in the city of Sumgayit, injured his ex-wife Farida (names withheld – ed.) during a dispute arising from personal relations.

According to Demokrat.az, Ramal grabbed his ex-wife Farida by the neck and tried to strangle her in the house they shared during a dispute over personal relations. He then hit her face with the palm of his hand and inflicted injuries of varying degrees.

Ramal, the perpetrator of the incident, was charged under Article 128 of the Criminal Code (intentional damage to health).

Ramal, who testified as a defendant in the criminal case, pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

He said that in 2016 he married Farida, a resident of Sumgayit, and had two children from that marriage:

“Farida and I lived together with my mother Sevil, my brother Saleh and my two children in the house that belongs to me. Soon after the arrival of Farida’s girlfriend, conflicts arose in the house due to minor family matters. For this reason, we divorced in 2022, according to the court order, however, the state gave Farida the same. We were given a room to live in the house. Farida also lived in that house.

The accused stated that on the day of the incident, around 2 pm, a conflict arose between him and Farida in the house where he lived:

“I found out that Farida borrowed money from an acquaintance. At that time, I reprimanded her for borrowing money from a stranger. Then, getting angry, I grabbed Farida by the neck and hit her face with the palm of my hand. After that, Farida let go of my hand and went to another room and left the house towards where her mother lives. Later, I came to know that Farida had lodged a complaint against me.”

According to Farida, who testified as a victim in the case, she married Ramal in 2016 and had two children from that marriage. That’s why I divorced Ramal in 2022. I was given a room in Ramal’s house.

The victim said that on the day of the incident, around 2:00 p.m., a conflict arose between them again in the house where she lived:

“I borrowed money from an acquaintance. At that time, Ramal started a conflict with me on why I had borrowed money from a stranger. He then attacked me, grabbed my throat and hit me in the face with the palm of his hand. I received it from Ramal’s hands and went to another room and then to the house where my mother lives. There were no witnesses to the incident. The conflict lasted for about 5 minutes.

This criminal case was heard in the Sumgayit Municipal Court.

The court took into account the fact that the accused had reconciled with the victim and that she had not complained about him. For this reason, the criminal proceedings against Ramal were terminated.

He was exonerated from criminal liability.
