The Ministry of Transport and the City Council of Granada have agreed to create a technical table to promote the connection and integration of the railway in the city. At a meeting held this September 25 in Madrid, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Oscar Bridgeand the mayor of Granada, Marifran Carazoagreed to work “jointly” on the railway integration proposal put forward by the ministry “to transform the city and its mobility as quickly as possible and with the greatest possible certainty.”
Puente will chair the first meeting of the technical council, which will be held within 15 days, and in which the mayor will also be present. This working commission will also include the Junta of AndalusiaThe aim is to address different aspects of the future of integration, such as the analysis of proposals presented by the city council or the board of directors.
“The meeting with the mayor of Granada was very positive. “We agree on the integration of the railway and now we have to work on the details,” said the minister, who insisted on the “great opportunity” that the project represents for Granada.”We will address all integration issues“both those that we can resolve in the short term, which will allow us to see the realities very soon, and those that require greater planning,” he said.

The mayor of Granada, for her part, stressed that “the agreement was a priority” and thanked the minister for the “flexibility” of the municipal proposals, previously agreed with the city’s professional associations and neighborhood associations. “It is important that we have the project that is the best and that has the least affection and the greatest acceptance for the people of Granada” he stressed.
The Secretary of State also attended the meeting, Jose Antonio Santano; the Secretary General of Land Transport, Marthe Serranoand the president of Adif, Luis Pedro Marcoas well as several representatives of the Granada City Council. During the meeting, which lasted about two hours, the minister defended the importance of working on the Ministry’s proposal to integrate the train, as it is “the most viable from a technical and financial point of view and offers greater certainty in its execution.” Its duration is estimated at seven or eight years.
Likewise, Minister Óscar Puente has committed to promoting the Moreda bypass, which aims to promote rail freight traffic between Antequera and AlmeriaThe variant would allow train traffic over 350 metres, preventing freight trains from entering the current station.
In this sense, the mayor of Granada thanked the acceptance of this variant for what it will mean to “favor the Mercagranada Zone Logistics Area“, as well as taking into account the improvement of the integration of the train in the La Rosaleda neighborhood or the access to the old sugar factory, where a university campus will be located, among others.
