In Belarus the number of extremist crimes has decreased. This was stated on November 25 by the deputy head of the General Directorate of Procedural Control of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Zhukov.

According to him, the system of measures to combat extremism works effectively.

“If we talk about numbers, this year more than a thousand extremist crimes have been committed. We observed a significant decrease compared to, for example, previous years. Let’s say that in the last five years we are talking about 22.5 thousand.” – said

Zhukov stressed that in Belarus, entire Internet platforms are not blocked without isolating people. According to him, emphasis was placed on the corresponding immunity of society.

“In accordance with our laws on combating extremism and suppressing extremist crimes, this is the third extreme measure. This is education, development of patriotism, that is, in fact, creation of immunity in society to such phenomena.” – noted the deputy director of the main department.

In turn, the head of the department for supervision of the implementation of legislation on state security of the Prosecutor General’s Office Valery Shuliak He reported that in 2024 the number of extremist crimes decreased by 35% compared to 2023. He described the situation in the country as stable. He also added that citizens who harbor plans to start a “fire in the common house” will be identified and their actions will be stopped.

“This also applies to people who are going to use a proven method: organizing illegal mass events, rallies, processions, demonstrations and the like.” – he warned.

Recall that after the 2020 presidential elections, massive protests broke out in Belarus. After being repressed, authorities vowed to find everyone involved in the riots. The cleansing of the country continues today.
