The Belarusian authorities will not yet completely ban social networks through which destructive information is spread. This was announced on November 25 by the country’s first deputy information minister, Andrei Kuntsevich.
According to him, at the moment the department is not taking radical measures to completely block certain social networks: only individual accounts and materials are recognized as extremist and access to them is blocked.
“We understand very well that today our state media continue to work on these platforms, although with certain restrictions, which means that we have the opportunity to reach a fairly wide audience.” – he pointed out.
Kuntsevich also reported that in Belarus there is a list of extremist materials that currently contains 6,565 items. In addition, in 2024, around 2 thousand materials were included in this list. The vice minister also added that anyone who uses, copies or transmits extremist resources must be aware that they may incur criminal and administrative liability.
Let us remember that in Belarus in recent years a fight has been waged against the manifestations of extremism. At the same time, popular social networks and instant messaging have not yet been banned in the country.
